The first Snowdrops are beginning to appear, this flower has a special connection to Epsom. Snowdrops were picked in the spring from the estate of Lord Rosebery off Chalk Lane and sold in bunches in Epsom for the Least We Forget Fund to aid wounded soldiers from the First World War. This began in 1919 and went on until a few years ago when the people doing it found it too difficult to bend and pick them. Lord Rosebery lost one of his sons in the war who he described as ” the light of my life”. Lord Rosebery would visit every family in Epsom who lost someone and made sure that they were financially  ok.
